The design of the chair was made by Thomas Lee in the early 1900’s. Lee was in search for an outdoor chair for his summer home in Westport, New York in the heart of the Adirondack Mountain.  

Lee offered the design to his friend, Harry Bunnell who is a carpenter. Bunnell presented the design and get patent in 1905 and began to produce the chair for the next 20 years. The chair continue its popularity in most rural areas in America and many homeowners find it perfect for an outdoor setting.
