Add a Burst of Style in Your Windows with Cedar Window Boxes

Window areas in the home when seen outside can look pretty boring. All you see are the frames and the glass or wooden panels that are covering them. But, they need not look plain anymore. There are outdoor accessories that you can use to introduce a burst of style into this architectural part of the home.

Cedar window boxes are certainly stylish window embellishments that you can employ. You can get hold of these items in furniture shops or any gardening supply stores in your area. When you can’t access them in your local establishments, you can always search and order them online.

These items simply look like trays or boxes. They are just some of the variations in plant boxes that you can use. Typically, we grow plants in pots and cans outside. But, such things are great for flat surfaces only. Although, you can use pots and cans in your window sills, they wouldn’t look lovely to behold when you have to tie them up to avoid them from falling over and knocking over someone’s head in the ground underneath them. The window trays and boxes will always appear more beautiful and well-made for they are built exclusively for these window sections of the house.

Cedar window boxes are narrow tray and box containers. They come in rectangular shapes and their lengths can vary depending on the width of the window area. The side panels of these things come in so many designs. The rims can be made wavy, straight or designed to a curve. The side panels meanwhile can bore different styles, too. There can be lattice-works that are attached. They can be carved out with flower, vine or leaf designs. Sometimes they can feature a series of horizontal lines to complement the outer wood paneling of the home.

The inner surface of these window boxes is flat. Like pots and cans, they also possess holes that will allow water to drain through. This is important so that water would not collect inside them that will wilt the plants and will cause early damage to the structure. If you don’t want water to seep through and leak towards the sidewalk or terrace underneath, you can place a sheet of plastic or a collecting tray within.

These window boxes are preferably made from cedar because cedar wood is great for outdoor use. This material has been used in manufacturing a variety of patio furnishings. They can resist the weather conditions outside beautifully and will last considerably for a long, long time.

You can plant so many things in these boxes. You can grow flowers that will add splashes of color to your window. You may also plant herbs and small vegetables that will give you aromatic spices and fresh ingredients each time you cook. Moreover, you may also plant vines that will add drama and flair to your home’s façade.
